We landed at the Atlantis and soon confirmed what we already
thought…that we’d be here for a while due to waiting for a
windy/rainy front to pass. HOWEVER we had a couple days to boat
around before hunkering down, so we planned a trip to Sand Cay.
So cool! It’s a little deserted island that is known as the most
photographed island ever…it was the back drop shot from Gilligan’s
Island, Hewey Lewis and the News shot a video there, and it was
featured in a Coppertone commercial.
Wanting the entire Gilligan’s island experience we packed up one raft
with drinks, Wiley (of course in his bright orange life vest) and
snorkel gear. Greg tied the Wiley raft to the second raft and we
paddled over to the island as excited as two little kids the night
before Christmas! We found a broken down shack that looked like it
could’ve been one of those swim up island bars…like the Soggy Dollar
in the Virgin Islands on Jost Van Dyke. It was amazing that we were
the only boat/people around as far as the eye could see. Lets just
say that we took full advantage of that little fact!
As the warm sun began to set we swam back to the boat. We had worked up and fierce appetite, which we cured with grilled filet mignon and asparagus, perhaps what Gilligan would have had. On second thought, not really sure what Gilligan’s ate but it probably wasn’t filet!
