The Bahamas

Following South Beach we jumped on the boat with both animals and headed out into the great big blue ocean called the Atlantic. A serious adventure considering that I (or any of the so-called Captains from Maryland that I know) don’t have any idea what this really entails.  Sorry fellow Captain buddies, just reading the news not making it!  It all set in when hanging out on the dock in South Beach one day.  I became friendly with a “real” Captain and he asked me where we planned to go for New Years.  I said we were heading to the Bahamas!  He proceeded to explain to me that there were going to be 8 to 10 foot waves on the day we planned to leave.  I inquisitively asked if the boat could handle it and would we get sick ~ his response put the danger element into perspective for me.  With a chuckle and small smirk he said, “Your boat will probably sink and you may die.” So needless to say, we quickly changed plans and headed to the Keys (Islamorada) instead.

Four months later, after thousands of questions and hours of reading we decided I was ready for the maiden voyage across the Atlantic to the Bahamas. The same Captain consulted with me while planning this present trip with his last words being “Don’t be a hero, if the weather is bad stay where you are.”

We are planning to stay in the Bahamas and explore big and small islands for a few weeks before heading up the US coastline and eventually ending back in Annapolis.

This is something that I have always wanted to do and is on my bucket list, not that checking off items on the list is that important right now ~ but when the sun and moon aligns go for it!
